"Danger!" (Prequel)"Danger!...they say. Beware!...they warn. Enter at your own risk!...reads the sign above the entrance way."
The guards of the Hart Asylum had long since locked Isabel Diaz in her own cell, and there she had sat with nothing more than her thoughts about her. She had certain community time, and had met her therapist in the joint, of course, but all in all there was very little time spent outside the cell. Once that time was up, back to the cell, and back to her own thoughts. But OH, there were so many thoughts. Her voice echoed inside her cell.
Nobody but you in here - talking to yourself again?
"Interesting concept here at Hart Asylum. They allow the inmates to beat up on one another, and whoever comes out on top is released out into the public for that week as some kind of reward system. I suppose they figure most people convicted won't know much about being in the ring. Who knows, maybe that's how it was in the beginning...but now that Sanatorium has been on the air for some time...what's stopping someone like me from using this program to my advantage?"
She took a moment to take another look at her predicament. One would think that this would be the last choice on anyone's mind, but it truly did defeat the alternative. The iron bars were kind of homey.
Fool anyone else, can't fool yourself.
"I know my way around a wrestling ring, I've been inside of one more than a time or two. I can be quite...dangerous, in my own right. If all I have to do is pin someone to the mat in order to earn my freedom each show, then that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to do everything in my power to walk out those doors after every Sanatorium."
For added effect, Beth nodded her head up and down. She knew that people would be watching at home, doubting.
"If that means putting down someone who doesn't really know what they're doing, then that's what I've got to do. If that means becoming a champion here to ensure my freedom, then that's what I've got to do. If that means stopping Kiki Katharsies in her tracks, then that's what I've got to do."
She paused, shrugging, having done much worse in the name of survival during her lifetime.
"You've been here a while Kiki, put in your time, makes me wonder just how long they plan on keeping you here. What else are you to do but to fight for your freedom every time they tell you too, eh? Seems you're currently turning heads, good for you. You're currently on Release, which means you at least won last Sanatorium, and some say you could be in line for a title shot. You may even be used to getting your freedom each and every week. Congrats on that. Congrats on surviving this place as long as you have, but at the end of the day, are you made for a place like this?"
Once again, her eyes darted around the empty room, but this time she made a show of it.
"I mentioned the general idea that anyone coming into this Asylum wouldn't have much ring knowledge - and you're one of those people, aren't you Kiki? You're a scrapper, I'll give you that much. You've got the heart and determination to keep yourself from backing out of a fight, I admire that for sure. But is it smart? You're not a wrestler Kiki, not a fighter. You've been through some shit and came out better for it, but when you're given a challenge how well do you fare then?"
Raised eyebrows, though it was rhetorical, of course. There was nobody there to answer back.
"Because make no mistake about it, that's what you've been given this time. A challenge. An obstacle. A large ass hurdle that stands in your way of freedom, and who knows, maybe in the way of whatever championship you're looking after. I know you just beat Legion, that's got to count for some kind of contendership, right?"
Slowly, she nodded her head up and down again but within seconds she had stopped, changing direction. Now she was shaking her head from side to side. Beth sighed.
"But instead you get me, in an inferno match, no less. I'm not afraid of a little fire, and I sure as hell aren't afraid of jumping into the deep end of the pool. This might be my first match in the Sanatorium, but it's going to be one for the ages. These people came for a show, and a show is what they're going to get!"
Her eyes looked directly into the camera for the first time, as if she was speaking directly to Kiki.
"Whatever it is you found within yourself to use against the likes of Legion, I want to see that. I want to see that same fire in your eyes that caused you to get your hand raised. Then, I want to put it out. Why? Because I want you at your best, Kiki, simply because I like to beat the best. I don't want to see the Kiki that barely knows what she's doing inside the ring, I want to see the Kiki that's on a warpath. You and I, we aren't so different, but only one of us can walk away with the win. I've got my own agenda to take care of..."
From behind her door, the locks began to turn without notice. Beth seemed unphased, as if this the unannounced visits were a common occurence here in the Sanatorium.
"...but for starters, I'm Acid Beth, let me take you on a trip!"
In walked two guards, handcuffs outstretched from the guard who walked in first. Beth simply held out her arms.
"You know the drill by now...they're expecting you."
The Good Doctor wants another chat.

"Danger!" part twoWell, that was an experience.
The guards unlocked the cuffs from around her wrists, before shoving her into her back into her cell. The day before she had turned around and spit at them and today she would have done the same if not for the threat she'd received, with intention to prolong her stay even if she was to win. Beth didn't like the sound of that, and she knew how to play a game once she knew the rules. That's all this was, learning the rules of the Sanatorium before she could make her move.
"Enjoy your talk with the Good Doctor?"
Beth felt the indents within her wrists where the cuffs had been. The Good Doctor is what she called the shrink here, who she'd already seen a vast amount of times but this IS a Sanatorium. She heard the voice but said nothing in response.
"Hey! You just gonna ignore me like that?!"
The sudden yell from the unknown voice startled her. Beth hadn't been the least bit intrigued about who was trying to talk to her, quite frankly because she doesn't care for most people. But now she was intrigued.
"I guess I didn't realize you could hear your neighbor in this joint...how come I didn't hear you before?"
"Probably for the same reason that you didn't respond to me just now."
"Hmm, fair enough."
Point taken, she thought. She had simply not wanted to talk to anyone, and who knows, maybe that's exactly how this random person on the other side of the wall had been feeling. After all, they had probably seen yet another roommate shuffled into the same space as the others. She couldn't blame them. The voice went quiet for longer than expected after that, leaving Beth to wonder why it reached out in the first place. Then, it spoke up again.
"You think you have what it takes to beat Kiki and earn your freedom?"
Beth nodded, she realized now who was behind the wall, and it must be her Sanatorium opponent herself. Beth could see where this was going, and it could easily lead down an unsavory road. She always told herself that she'd first take the path without violence, and if that didn't work. Then, well...violence.
"Are you Kiki? Look it's nothing personal, but only one of us is going to have our hand raised in the end. I know you've got your own hopes and dreams, and I'm sure you want to get out of this place too. But I want it more, and that's what it's going to come down to, who wants it more. I have personal things I need to tend to in the outside world, time sensitive things. I can't let you pin me, Kiki. I can't let you keep me here for longer than I need to be behind these walls."
Beth's last word echoed throughout her own room and she waited for a response that never came. Instead, there was nothing but silence from the person on the other side of the wall.
"I get it, you're probably either at a loss of words or you're so filled with rage right now that you don't even know what to say. Personally, I hope it's the later, because I want you at your angriest! I want pure rage from you, Kiki! Because I want the very best that Sanatorium has to offer! We may be setting one another on fire by the time the night is through, but there's nothing saying we can't have fun doing it. I like playing with fire, I can tell you do too. So let's burn the fuckin' house down. We're both stuck in here for an undisclosed amount of time, regardless and I don't see..."
Without warning, the voice on the other side of the wall spoke up, cutting Beth off mid-sentence.
"I'm not Kiki, you fucking idiot."
Beth let her anger get the better of her in an instant. She punched the wall, and then punched it again! She let out a deep yell from within her that meant war. She placed her face close to the wall, despite raising her voice.
"Who the hell do you think you are?! You think just because I'm the newcomer around here that I can be pushed around, picked on?! Guess again, motherfucker! Just wait until I get my hands on whoever you are!"
She punched the wall a third time, followed by a fourth before the locks to her door began turning. Two guards rushed in, one immediately wrestling with her and trying to restrain her and her anger.
"What in the hell has got you so riled up in here?! We need you to calm down or we're going to have to get the cuffs!"
"It's that douchebag next door trying to start shit!"
She yelled back, getting her right hand free and punching the wall for a fifth time.
"There is nobody next door, your room is at the end of the corridor!"
The guard yelled back, assisting the first guard in keeping her arms down. However, at this point he wouldn't have needed any help, as Acid Beth heard the words and slowly stopped resisting. Nobody next door? Was that true?
"Aww damn, look at your hand. We're going to need to take you over to Dr. Paige now you're all busted up."
She looked down at her hand that was being placed within the guards hand. It was true, she had managed to punch the wall so hard that it broke the skin and she was bleeding. A moment later she was being cuffed again, with a sigh from the guard, and escorted out of her room. On her way out, she glanced the opposite direction, and saw nothing but a wall.
Is Beth safer behind locked doors, or are the inmates the ones in danger?
End.
