Match Six:Maggie McIntyre (w/ Levi Tsingine) versus Thomas Bane (w/ Alex Slayer)The Shinigami Foundation put themselves on the map at the end of last Dystopia, challenging the #1 Contenders to the Tag Team Championships, Dynamic Duo... but they haven't even fought their first matches yet. Maggie McIntyre, on the other hand, has had some singles success and is seldom seen without Levi Tsingine at her side. Levi, a Shogun entrant from outside the promotion, is currently competing on the Shogun block and a frontrunner to make the finals. If he did, a move to Dystopia and a team with Maggie would only seem natural.

Some days ago…
Levi was impatient enough to jump for a low branch, even with as futile as he knew this effort to be-- calling to mind a certain fox and some grapes from another culture's stories. He was a wise enough warrior to know that pursuing her into her own field of advantage wasn't the best move. He was also a wise enough hunter to know to normally not worry when prey evaded his trap-- that with patience, it would return again. But he wanted this prey, this opponent, and she could make him go against his better judgment if only for a minute.
He hung for a moment there, finally twisting and dropping back into the brush with a frustrated grunt rather than expending all his energy in trying to pursue her further up. Instead?
Instead he faded back into the undergrowth, the pinpoints of hungry eyes becoming hard to distinguish from the glint of the moon on leaves. Feeling for the movement of the wild in the slight breeze to blend his own movements with it, like a singer's humming might hone in on a tuning fork.
He didn't have to taunt her verbally this time. His disappearing act was the taunt in itself here. Even with your advantage of higher ground, I can deceive you.
Maggie continued to climb through the branches until she was sure that he’d lost sight of her, before stopping deathly still in her tracks. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she looked around to the forest floor, seeking out her companion only to see nothing resembling a giant in between the trees. Levi had a lifetime of practice moving silently and disappearing into the brush--something she’d only taken to after going out on the road with him. She slowed her breathing down, willing to slow her pulse from racing.
The blackbird was quick to learn, hungry for every bit of knowledge her witch could impart.
She heard some rustling and turned on the branch, only a sickening crack to sound out before she shrieked instinctively. Maggie grabbed at another limb, pulling herself to a more secure footing as the broken bow hit the ground with a dull thud and whoosh of the leaves.
Her head whipped back and forth as she scanned the area below her, knowing he heard the branch break and fall--giving away her position. Levi would move without being seen and she needed to do the same. Maggie pushed her hair from her face, looking up to the sky and jumped to another tree. Her footing was unsure, but she managed to steady herself after a moment, before turning and coming face to face with the moon. That bright full moon in the sky, tinged with red. Ohhh. That’s what the something happening tonight was. A blood moon, sacred to the hunters.
Where are you, Mai’coh? She thought, beginning her descent to the ground. Maggie could not tempt fate further in these trees tonight. A broken branch was message enough, she would have to change her tactic and join her companion on the ground. She climbed down silently to the forest floor, crouching at the base of the tree for a few moments to just listen before scrambling for the safety of the--
Fuck.
The broken branch was there in front of her...she swore she saw the movement from the corner of her eye. It had to be him. Maggie popped her head up again, looking around and took off before he had a chance to make his move. He would hear her, certainly--but she was smaller, able to duck and weave through the trees and the undergrowth far more easily than he.
When the branch broke he'd jumped in position, though she'd been a little busy saving her own hide to notice-- for which he was proud of her. Her reflexes had stepped up considerably since they'd met. Which gave him an idea.
He watched silently from his spot, knowing it was a good one. She'd jumped to another tree, and he'd lost her amongst the foliage, then been surprised when he lost track of her until she made the ground. Then he'd lost her again, right up until she'd frozen unnaturally at the broken branch. As she'd taken off, his head had pivoted to follow her arc-- then he'd taken off with a huge surge out of the brush, making no pretense at staying quiet, if anything letting the disturbance of his size serve as a distracting surprise to her.
The chase was on. She could move far more agilely around things than he could, but he could barrel straight through things that would stop her or at least slow her down too much. Not that it came without a cost, albeit one he probably wouldn't feel so much until later tonight when he stopped. He was also counting to his potential advantage that she'd likely get turned around in here a lot easier than he would. The moon shone through the trees, but the stars were harder to track-- he was counting on the compass in his head.
His bounding footsteps were like thunder in her ears as she ran, getting hit with stray branches left and right. It was enough to keep her going that he’d decided not to hide anymore either. He was the coming storm--some dark entity seeking her out to pull her to places she’d not yet been and not realizing she’d quickly lost her way in the woods while giving him chase. Maggie ducked down suddenly, veering off to the right of the path she’d been on and doubled back.
She went back past the broken branch, dropping behind a bush trying to catch her breath.
Her lungs felt like they were on fire, her veins were pumping battery acid. Maggie had to stop and regain her bearings--silently, so her hunter would not realize what she’d done. She had only a few scant seconds to breathe before she was speared from the side, arms wrapping around to hold her tightly as they rolled through the underbrush. The adrenaline coursing through her system made the world slow down, made her realize what was happening all the sooner and gave her the presence of mind to plant her heel in the fold of his hip and thigh. Maggie kicked with all her might and was able to separate them, scrambling away from him.
His snarl sent a shiver up her spine, one hand shot out and grabbed an ankle, yanking her slighter frame towards him. Fallen leaves and other forest floor detritus slid up her back as he crawled over her, a wolf taking in the scent of fear from his prey. Levi’s hands came to wrap around her wrists, using his weight to keep her down.
“You caught me, Mai’coh.” Her words were hissed, even as she tested the limits of his strength.
"Mmn..." The grunt of acknowledgement in that. His eyes were on hers, but his other senses were electrified. "But I always make use of what I catch." He leaned to one side, looking up at the moon. "And tonight... I think this world could use another hunter."
Nowadays...
The dinette table of the RV had been overrun with Maggie’s project for the last few days.
Her companion never minded when she spread out over a specific area in the RV. She was a sight to behold when she got this focused. The elk skull and a near-complete rack of antlers she scavenged a few weeks ago had finally been cleaned and processed. They’d stopped driving a little while ago, preferring a more remote location to park for the night. There was no fire--no telling her tales while she curled up in his lap.
Maggie’s third match in the WWH was coming up and she had done her preparations. Her feet were healing well from their night spent in the woods...she felt like his equal now. She was still covered in bruises and healing scratches, not just from the Women’s Showcase match she’d won by pinning veteran Mercedes Vargas, but from the night shared with her companion in the woods. It was an experience she wouldn’t soon forget. She had triumphed over three highly skilled and experienced opponents in one night. Maggie McIntyre was destined for great things, he said, but it was important not to lose sight of her feet. She was his blackbird, the mischievous magpie who’d flown into his life and made the decision to follow. She was the hunter who saw the world from the air, who followed the big bad wolf.
“Ow! Shit.” The knife had slipped and Maggie had jabbed herself in the thumb, opening up a deep enough wound that it would bleed for a while. Her exclamation drew the attention of her companion, mostly just a questioning sound along with a raised eyebrow. “It’s nothing, the knife slipped.”
“You’re doin’ ritual work, Blackbird. It was supposed to happen.” His tone was deep, so sure of himself as he turned the page in his book. Tsingine didn’t need to see what was happening. He could feel it. “It’s the Creator’s way of tellin’ you something was missing.”
She paused for a moment, considering his words before a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. She knew exactly what it was missing.
The Shinigami Foundation…
You guys made a splash last Dystopia and you came out demanding something you haven’t earned. Haven’t even had a real official match here yet and you’re outright challenging the number one contenders to the tag titles? I don’t know if you know, but that kinda logic is like putting the horse before the cart. It doesn’t work that way, no matter how much you demand. You might as well be a little kid, shouting out to the grownups in the room about what you want and why you’re going to get it.
You guys got your answer, I guess.
They picked you, Tommy, to go against me.
I mean, there are folks out there who think I’m all swell and shiny, but I know better than most that it takes serious hard fuckin’ work to get what you’re demanding. I beat Jonna Austin on the pre-show. My second match was a Women’s Division showcase where I pinned the badass veteran chick. Was kinda hard to miss, it wasn’t too long before you guys came out making your demands.
I don't know much about you though, besides the obvious.
You’ve got like a hundred pounds on me. You’re taller, stronger, and probably just as fast. But then again, maybe the powers that be decided that your first match here on Dystopia should be against someone who’ll give you a good fight.
That’s exactly what you’ll get with me, especially since I’ll have my wolf with me.
Not to help. Not to cheat. Just with me.
And you’ll have your companion with you.
It puts us on even ground and it’ll be a battle for the ages.
Fuck, I can’t wait!
Levi Tsingine stood at the end of the bed in his RV, watching with a grin as his companion balanced precariously up near the head of it. It was her gift to him...to them. The elk skull with that magnificent rack of antlers was now mounted over the place where they slept. She’d spent so much time outside of getting ready for her match to make sure it was a gift only he would truly appreciate.
“It’s perfect, Blackbird. Now c’mere.”
He beckoned her over with a finger, something electric and primal in his gaze.
Maggie didn’t make him chase her this time. She outright leapt into his arms and relished his embrace. The Banshee kissed the crown of his hair gently before she pulled back, her grin matching his.
“Gonna thank me properly, Mai’coh?”
“Ayup.”

“My soul is callous, it is impassive... I put any sentiment whatever at defiance to attain it, with the exception of pleasure. I am mistress of that soul's movements and affections, of its desires, of its impulsions; with me, everything is under the unchallenged control of mind; and there's worse yet... for my mind is appalling. But I am not complaining, I cherish my vices, I abhor virtue; I am the sworn enemy of all religions, of all gods and godlings, I fear neither the ills of life nor what follows death; and when you're like me, you're happy.”
― Marquis de Sade
=============================================
{Scene Start: The cameras fade into the casino somewhere in Night City, it is here at the roulette table that we find none other than Thomas Bane. He is dressed in his fine white suit and looks at the camera with a rather thoughtful expression on his face, but when he speaks it is with a rather neutral tone}
Bane:
First off before I address my opponent for my debut for this company, I feel a need to address this misconception that Alex and myself came out last week to challenge the Dynamic Duo, for I know that at some point those two children will speak out about how we're gunning for their chance at proving why they are the superior tag team or some such like that.
You see, Serenity and Jocelyn, Alexander and I came out to the ring after that farce to put you both on notice. Not because we want the tag team titles, no...if we wanted those right off the back then we would've gone after the Soulless Sisters correct?
{Bane sighs deeply the kind of sigh that speaks much to annoyance}
Bane:
No, for weeks now the two of you have put it out there that you feel superior to every other team out there in the world of professional wrestling and you've let it seep into who you are as people.
Surely the lessons of your own big brother's arrogance hasn't been lost to you, Jocelyn?
Because if it has, then it will be up to myself and Alexander to teach you the way and *remind* you of what you could've become had the War Queen stepped into your life.
But enough of that, now onto the business at hand.
{Bane uses his free hand to push a small pile of blue chips onto the red ten before the camera moves back to his face as he looks now equal parts interested...and annoyed}
Bane:
My dear Miss Maggie, I must say that while I’m equal parts excited about facing my first opponent in this promotion...I’m also so very disappointed in your arrogant ignorance because you as well seem to believe that Alexander and myself came out and challenged for a shot at the tag team titles.
And you call us “childish” when you yourself is blind to the truth?
No Maggie, this week on Dystopia I will grant you the extreme honor of being my first opponent...and the first of a great many as I begin my great work here in this company because all great things begin with a single small step, that singular narrow motion that signals movement into a great wide purpose.
{Bane allows himself a moment to grant the camera a small smile ever so slightly before it disappears}
Bane:
But this is where the joy must end for you, my dear, because don’t let the fact that while I am a man of wealth and taste, I have been around a long, long time in this sport and where some people might brag on and on about how many titles they have won...I measure my victories in a different way.
You see, where some fools collect belts...I collect spines.
{Bane motions around him before allowing himself another small smile, but this one is not a pleasant smile in the slightest}
Bane:
And as you can see by my surroundings, business is very good and as always, I'm looking to expand my business.
But one thing I did want to point out from your promo is that while yes, you and I do both have a man at ringside...
{Bane motions at the table that he's sitting at as the camera pulls out to reveal at least three more open seats..not including the one where a well dressed Alex Slayer is sitting at as well}
Bane:
Just because you only see two of us at any given time to mean that there are only two of us, Maggie.
{The smile then disappears from Bane’s face as his expression becomes much more serious}
Bane:
All polite banter and joking aside, when the time is right then Alexander and myself will start our hunt for the world tag team championship, then and only then. But for now we have much bigger fish to catch than twenty pounds of gold plate and black leather.
You are one of those very fish.
I take this sport very seriously, as I will show you at Dystopia the errors of your arrogance and add your spine to my collection as payment for said arrogance.
I don’t think that you’re “swell” or even “shiny”, I think that you’re arrogant and misguided, confused to what real opponents look like without having faced someone without a defined purpose in this sport, something that I’m well versed in and have made my own…
...just like my extensive repertoire of backbreakers which I will be more the GLAD to introduce you to the moment that you step into my world, young lady.
But the most important thing that you need to realize about our match this weekend on Dystopia is if you think that you can enter into my world, with the arrogant ignorance that you’ve shown in your promo, and bet on yourself to win….
{A faceless dealer spins the roulette wheel and it clatters for a few moments before finally landing in the marker of red ten}
Bane:
Then you will have placed the wrong bet, because in this casino, Maggie. You are facing the house and the house always wins.
Be seeing you very soon.
{The screen fades to black}
