Scene: The Immortal Battle of Gods! Escape Is A Sandwich of Virtue!
OOC Special Note: I will be featuring a Filipino song for each of my pieces throughout the Shogun tournament in tribute. So I apologize if the subject matter doesn't actually match the content of the piece. Think of it as a soundscape.
The man known as Demetrius “Godzilla” Lane had landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay, Metro Manila in the Philippines. It was a long 18 hour flight, with a layover in Taiwan via China Airlines, to the subsequent Philippines Airlines and finally two and a half hour stretch before landing at the beautiful pacific islands of white sands and turquoise waters. Food wasn’t half bad either. As cramped as the seating space was for a man the girth of Godzilla, the food wasn’t bad. You got three complete meals on your journey. Sure it was always chicken in brown teriyaki like sauce over rice, some form of fruit like an orange or banana, coffee or tea and a refrigerated vanilla creme cookie. But hey, for airline food it was pretty decent. Are we doing OK, Jerry? In a weird, snug way, the tight spaces helped him sleep. Kind of like in that “This is rather uncomfortable but I’m so tight squeezed it’s almost like I’m being hugged into submission” kind of feeling. Of course, just days before being involved in a vicious fight for his life against the likes of Zolton and Sah’ta Thor helped aid in the exhaustion. And wouldn’t you know it? Demetrius has to turn right around and face The Immortal One one more time in the opening round of the Shogun Tournament.
One thing Lane will definitely admit, he doesn’t have the endurance of Sah’ta Thor. Not in the way his schedule works. There’s no way Demetrius could stand to stretch himself thin over three federations and still put on banger performances every night for everyone. He’s just had one match with Thor and he’s already delirious with fatigue. That’s why he couldn’t even protest when he was called to the Pearl of the Orient by an old friend. Demetrius is just going through the motions. Luckily, customs didn’t give him any trouble. Nor did they his conveniently placed camera man. Because damnit you KNEW there was gonna be a conveniently placed cameraman. How else could we catch these thoughts for Godzilla as he received his passport stamp, slung his freshly inspected bags over his shoulders and began to cut a promo on the long walk from airport terminal to the money exchange up front where he was to convert his American currency to the philippine peso.
Demetrius Lane: He’s gotta prepare for Shogun, they say. He’s gotta prepare for Sah’ta Thor. He’s gotta be wary of Mike Mason and his cohort waiting in the wings. What’s her name? Becca Wildline. Calls herself the beast. Well? She’s my final round opponent for the Shogun. So I’ll be sure to keep my receipts for those chair shots. Gotta be prepared for her too. Prepare. Prepare. Prepare. Like Scar would want you to do. Be. Prepared. Wait. Am I supposed to be Mustafa in this scenario? Does that make Sah’ta Thor, Scar? His little minions, Velvet Grey, Sujir, Astryd...are they the hyenas? Does that make Eli Copeland our Simba? Everything the light touches...you bought. I don’t even want to surmise who’s Timone and Pumba. All I know that Thor is destined to throw me off a cliff into a herd of wildebeests. So it DOES all come back to Becca...Somebody call Qanon. I’ve cracked the code.
The camera continues to follow along. In a sort of “behind the scenes” style to chronicle Demetrius’ sauntering around Metro Manila. The walk through the terminal is a long one. Although it is still early morning, so the usual airport tourist traps like Kase Bath & Body Works, Island Souvenirs and ADIDAS are not open for business. Making the normal hustle and bustle of the Ninoy Aquino more like a sterilized ghost town. The echo of the foot steps from Godzilla are near thunderous. But before we could get to the final destination of the front lobby and subsequent waiting area, Demetrius’ olfactory senses were distracted by the sweet, unmistakable scent of Cinnabon. Somehow, the sugary, cinnamon & nutmeg based treats intermixed with scents of a not too far off smoky and savory barbecued goodness of a joint called the Tapa King. The Tapa’s were just in preparation. But those Cinnabons, that shit’s available twenty-four-seven. And you best believe Demetrius was gonna partake in an oversized sticky bun before meeting his charge. Before he can enjoy the confection, the thought of food has the Juggernaut feeling some stitching that protrudes from the top of his head, as his memory sparks again regarding the confrontation with Sah’ta Thor and Zolton last Dystopia.
Demetrius Lane: He bit me...I remember that much. Sah’ta Thor tried to take a piece of Godzilla with him. That’s not a feeling I’m looking forward to happening again. But there’s no avoiding it is there? Just like with “Marvelous” Mike Mason, it seems like every opponent I DON’T directly beat in that ring is going to come back to bite me...seriously, literally. I can’t get over it. But like I told Mason last time, the King of the Monsters is a force of nature that cares not for the bystanders he squashes on the way to Tokyo. Mike Mason is gonna have to wait just a little bit longer before I circle back and take him down for good. His girl Wildeline will get a taste first. But before even ALL that, I must deal with the devil of the details, Sah’ta Thor. Despite all the distractions, I am a man of singular, targeted focus. It starts with The Immortal One. And that focus will lead me further to the Finals of the Shogun Tournament...and subsequent claiming of the World Wrestling Headquarters, Heavyweight Championship of the World.
Things begin to get noisier as Godzilla begins to acclimate to the rest of the population all waiting eagerly for their parties meeting them at the airport. Cabs and SUV’s line up the front of the building for hundreds of yards. Each filled with smiling, friendly filipino faces. Even as Lane steps outside he winces in the face of the rising sun, remarking silently to himself that the air here just smells...fresher. It’s nice. The warm atmosphere matching it’s weather and the disposition of its people. This is definitely a place a guy could get used to staying at for the next two or three months while Godzilla battles for supremacy in the Shogun.
Lo and behold! Demetrius only has to politely decline the help of several chauffeur’s once or twice before his massive frame is spotted from the crowd and an “OY! GOJIRA!” reverberates through the chatter. Two massive bodies collide as the Hug Heard ‘Round The World is initiated. Godzilla is met face to face with a man a few inches shorter than him, but with near matching girth over a man of clear pacific islander heritage, short shaved hair, similarly strong jawline as Demetrius, wearing red and yellow hawaiin shirt and off white shorts with matching black and white flip flops. This was “The Human Tsunami” King Ikaika. His beady eyes twinkled with excitement from seeing an old friend for the first time in ages.
King Ikaika: Brother man! Musclefat Madness himself. Big D Lane! It’s good to see you man. Glad you could make it. I’m telling you. You’re gonna love it here. You never gotta choose between business and pleasure again. We’re gonna train on the sands of heaven. Running with the palm trees, praying to the Gods of War on our knees and beautiful women to serve your every need. And the best part? Everybody loves to eat! I have such sights to show you, my friend.
Demetrius chuckles heartily out loud. He lets The King take the lead and flag down a sized overnight Lincoln Navigator to provide them with an air conditioned ride to whatever hotel or living accommodations that Ikaika has previously arranged for Godzilla. Throughout all of this preamble, he responds in kind.
Demetrius Lane: Ay, King. I don’t know if all that’s necessary. I mean, I’m more than happy to immerse myself into this culture to get a better appreciation for the nation I’m representing. But I can’t be partying too hard between matches. I’m almost positive Sah’ta Thor never sleeps. Yet his mind is as sharp as an adamantium blade.
Ikaika guffaws in response. The driver and his girlfriend talk amongst themselves in their native waray language, paying no more attention to their passengers after the destination is provided by King. Leaving both human monoliths to converse freely as they pass by blue skies and miles of industrial buildings intermixed with palm trees from downtown Manila.
King Ikaika: Adamantium Blade? Hey man, you playing them Final Fantasy games again aint ya? Haha! Listen, brother. This isn’t about giving me a yes or no. You’re gonna experience the BEST that the Philippines has to offer. My treat. Consider it paying forward for all the times you comped for my burgers on the road back in FREEDOM Pro Wrestling. And I’ll never forget you sleeping on the floor while letting me use YOUR bed while we toured for The Chizu Roppongi Wrestling Casino. You were there for me at my worst. So I’m here for you now, to stand side by side with YOU brother, to make sure you make it ALL the way to the top of the business!
Demetrius could feel the intensity emanating from the Human Tsunami. He was always like that. Meeting everything in life with 100% energy and aggression. One couldn’t ask for a better friend. And that’s before he hit it big becoming an Oriental celebrity in Japan and Hong Kong.
Demetrius Lane: I appreciate you, King. I really do. I know you think you’re repaying me for our trials of the past. But what you’re doing now is tenfold. I don’t want to screw this opportunity up. The Shogun is serious business. Kids become warriors. Warriors become legends. Legends become champions. And Sah’ta Thor in the first round? I know I won against him and Zolton, but he’ll very rightly tell the world that I didn’t beat him. There’s no escaping that confrontation this time. I either have to beat one of the greatest to ever do it, or I have a huge uphill battle to climb if I want to come in first place at the end of this.
Still, Lane couldn’t help but look down on his own person. The muffin tops protruding from his seat belt, digging into the wall of muscle laying beneath.
Demetrius Lane: A lot of people look at me, they see this body, and they think I’m just one big bag of pudding. Giant Tiger knows differently. Mike Mason does too, whether he chooses to admit it or not. Zolton knows exactly what’s underneath this leathery exterior. And Sah’ta Thor is coming for a second helping. Punching through my stomach is like striking a wall of padded steel. I work hard for the definition I got. And as much as I love to eat, I don’t want to squander any advantage I got against the likes of Thor, Zolton or the Doombringer himself. Oh yeah I haven’t forgotten about my date with Destiny with Josh Kaine. And you can color me excited for that! But I’m digressing, brother. I’m just trying to say-
King Ikaia cuts off his friend as they approach the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Manila. He places a hand on Godzilla’s shoulder as he sways his other arm to entreat Demetrius to his not-so-humble abode he’d be living at for the foreseeable future. We'll dig further into his accommodations with the next chapter of the Shogun.
King Ikaika:
Relax, my man. Win or lose, there's no shame in mixing it up with Sah'ta Thor. You'll learn something from the experience. And Iron sharpens Iron. I think you'll both be better off the rest of this tournament after fighting each other. But I want you to know, while you're here...You’ll be well taken care of. Welcome my brother, to paradise.

OOC: Trying a new shade for my speech text. Let me know if it works better than Gold Shogun 2020: Motivation? [Part 1]
It was that time of year again, it was Shogun season and the opening round match up had led to some interesting match ups. Yet, the one that was the most relevant was the match that Sah'ta Thor would be having against the impressive Demetrius Lane. In terms of national representations Norway versus The Philippines in competition for the prize that will be won at Shogun 2020. Yet, the question was would the self styled King of the Monsters be able to end the aspirations of The Demon King? Or would The Raging Storm leave the ring having blown Godzilla over? Only time would tell the answer to those questions and more.
"Here we are World Wrestling Headquarters. The 2020 Shogun season has started and what a first round set of matches we have. Ten matches over both Sanatorium and Dystopia in what will be the norm for the next couple of months. Yet, I won't bore you by doing the match up run downs since I have faith in your ability to read the Shogun updates that get posted on the WWH website by management. Though even if that faith is misplaced the only match I feel the need to talk about is my upcoming match with Demetrius Lane."
The voice over pauses for a moment as the screen plays recaps of the triple threat match from the last edition of Dystopia.
"Last Dystopia, Demetrius pinned Zolton in the center of the ring. I was too slow to break up the pin attempt for a mix of reasons. Of course, this is where I am supposed to whine and complain about the loss. Or am I supposed to be making a list of excuses on why I didn't win that match? Either way, that isn't what I am going to do right now. No, that match was an action packed blockbuster in the ring. Zolton, the current number one contender to Havoc's WWH World Championship. Demetrius the agile behemoth who is rapidly rising through the ranks here in WWH. And of course, myself the legendary veteran Sah'ta Thor. By beating Zolton it could be argued that Demetrius Lane belongs in title contention and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if that happened sooner rather than later."
The video replay of the match continues to play as Thor takes a breath.
"Now having said that I, this week will be a huge test for both of us. On the one hand we have Demetrius trying to prove that he is a serious contender here in WWH. Though we all saw what happened earlier in the night with the attack from the newly formed Beauty and Beast team. Of course, those chair shots didn't slow Lane down much during the match or prevent him from winning. However, I can assure you that what those two started is far from over. Will they have an impact on our match? I couldn't tell you but in the end it doesn't matter since I have to show that I still belong in this business. It is not secret that I am one of, if not the oldest, active competitors on the WWH roster. Yet, for that I can still keep with talent's much younger than myself.
Come Dystopia, I go against Demetrius Lane in a match to see which one of us is the better wrestler that night. It will be experience versus youth. Though it will be more than that once the bell rings, it will be strictly business as I represent the land of my forefathers in the Shogun tournament. You see folks, while this is Demetrius Lane's first Shogun tournament, it is my second. My second and last. I won't get into the details now but let's just say that once I have established myself as a valued member of this roster I will get into that.
However, here is the crux of the matter. The prize of the Shogun tournament is a title match of my choice, the main event of Final Destination, a trophy and lastly a large amount of money. Now, anyone who knows who I am by following my career over the years knows that money is the least of my motivations for my wanting to win this tournament. In a lot of ways it isn't even the other prizes that are my main motivation to win." Thor stops speaking as the match from last Dystopia comes to an end. As it does with Demetrius Lane getting the win the image slowly shifts to reveal Sah'ta Thor standing in front of a set of display cases with the 2016 WWH International Championship over his shoulder. Each of the cases is filled with titles from various places along with a set of rings.
"Don't get me wrong, titles and accomplishments do drive me to a certain degree. Yet, for all the signs of my being successful in this industry I know it all means jack shit. The thing is that I know none of you give a rat's ass about what I have done in the past. I get it, you don't care what I have won or who I have beaten outside of this slice of the business. I can't fault you for it, however you should care what the reality of what the display cases behind me represent to the pro wrestling business. Though I know the only thing you care about the fact that I am calling myself "The Real" International Champion. Now that isn't the motivation behind my wanting to win the Shogun Tournament. Don't worry, I will explain that fully before we get to the Shogun Finals. Until then I will let you wonder why a man of my age and accomplishments would willingly subject myself to the rigors of the World Wrestling Headquarters roster. Why would I willingly want to face men like Demetrius Lane or Zolton? Why after almost four years of exile I would return to the WWH in the first place. I will save you some trouble answering that. I came back to support the new management and see if I had a place in the new regime. I came back to close the book on some past wrongs. There is more to the reasoning of why I came back but for now that is all you are going to get on the subject."
As Thor finishes speaking his hand comes up to caress the surface of the title on his shoulder while using the tip of his tongue to wet his lips.
"Though I am now curious what you think of the legacy that will come of this match Demetrius. I am curious what the impact of our confrontation on Dystopia will do to the landscape of the WWH. You see, Godzilla I know you don't care who you crush in the pursuit of your goal to be the top monster in the WWH. I can respect that mentality to a certain degree. However, you have to face me in our second match in a row. I too have goals and aspirations for my time here in the WWH. Yet, unlike you Demetrius I know my time is limited. I know that my time as an active wrestler is winding to a close. Knowing that fact, I will do everything I need to do in order to beat you in our match. Once that bell rings it will be strictly business no matter what I have to do. Don't take it personally Demetrius but you will have plenty of time to build your own legacy in WWH and the wrestling industry as a whole. The only question I have is this; Is the King of the Monsters ready to face the Raging Storm?"
With those words Thor let's his hand slide off the face of the title belt on his shoulder as he grins in anticipation of things to come. As the video fades away to nothing he grabs his International Title off his shoulder and thrusts it into the air. The video shifts into a Dystopia hype package.
